More than 15 million people and businesses use MailChimp to send 1 billion emails every day. They send more email than anyone else, and they send it fast.

Quickly growing small businesses and e-commerce platforms like Shopify need an experienced marketing automation provider that can scale with them. Merchants need an innovative company with the resources and tools necessary to improve their performance, and grow their business, and there is no platform more uniquely suited to do just that.

What is MailChimp?

MailChimp is an email service provider (ESP), which helps marketers send bulk emails to clients, customers, and other interested parties.

Their approach to email marketing focuses on excellent list management practices, beautifully designed campaigns, and powerful data analysis.

In this article, you'll learn how to start using MailChimp, and also provide some helpful resources to use as you work to build your business.

Why Do We Like MailChimp?

There are also other alternatives to MailChimp (Campaign Monitor, Klaviyo, etc) but we love MailChimp because it's the perfect companion to Shopify - it has a beautiful interface, is easy to use and you don't have to pay a tonne of money for basic automation!

Besides being a super fun company, we love MailChimp because they also send us awesome stuff and they make kick-ass annual reports

How Does MailChimp Work With eCommerce Platforms?

Whether you need to sell your products, or share some big news, MailChimp’s campaign builder makes it really simple to create email campaigns that best suit your message, and tells you what you should be doing to improve.

Shopify Reports In Your MailChimp Dashboard

If you’ve connected your Shopify store to MailChimp, the first section of your dashboard is E-commerce performance. Here, MailChimp shows you e-Commerce revenue from the store you’ve connected to your account, to find out how much money you’re making online.

In the E-commerce performance section, you’ll also find these:

• Revenue from MailChimp: Gross revenue you have generated from all MailChimp email marketing (campaigns and automations) during the timeframe

• Positive or negative percentage: The increase or decrease of this timeframe’s revenue compared to the last timeframe’s revenue

• Total store revenue: Gross revenue from MailChimp emails plus gross revenue from non-MailChimp sources

• Orders: Total number of orders from all stores connected to your MailChimp account

MailChimp Features That Mean Business

For new businesses, you can create beautiful, professional campaigns and marketing automations for free — no design or coding experience necessary. It's so easy, you can start today.

The basic MailChimp account has in-built features as mentioned below. Over the next few articles, we will be going over these features in more detail.

Automation allows you to create and schedule automated emails that follow up on purchases, nurture leads, and provide product recommendations to customers.

A/B Testing

Build up to 3 variations on each test, including content, send times, "From" name, etc. MailChimp will help perform the test, let you know which option worked best, and send the winning campaign automatically.

E-commerce Features

Easily connect your shopping cart to your MailChimp account. Track online orders, set up automated messaging, and generate more revenue from your campaigns using MailChimp's e-commerce features.

Advanced Analytics

Monitor sales and website activity with revenue reports, using Google Analytics to inform your email content, and see how you measure up to other competitors in your industry.

Triggered Emails

With Connected Sites, you can send triggered emails based on signups, website views, JavaScript events, and more.

Bump Up Your Plan

Alternatively, you can pay for increased functionality by selecting the Growing Business (starting at $10 per month) or the Pro Marketer Plan (additional $199 per month).

These plans not only allows you to do all of the above, but it also targets your message using e-Commerce data, monitor your metrics with comparative reports, and optimise and improve with multivariate testing, while ensuring you stay on top of your performances.
